How big is the Ogden Point terminal?


 

The entire Ogden Point facility covers more than 30 acres of land and seabed. Two concrete piers form four deep-water berths, the shortest of which is 800 feet long. The other three berths are more than 1,000 feet in length. The facility is encompassed on the southern side by a breakwater that extends more than 2,600 feet out from shore.

 

How many people cruise to Victoria?


 

In 2007, the cruise industry brought approximately 324,000 visitors to the Greater Victoria region. Ships made 163 calls at Ogden Point. Since that time, visitor numbers have grown to more than 400,000 per year. In 2010, ships made more than 220 calls at Ogden Point.

 

When is Cruise Season in Victoria?


 

The first cruise ship of the season typically arrives in mid-April. Vessels continue calling throughout the summer, often with two or three ships arriving in a single day. The cruise season will taper to a close around the end of September.

 

What is the weather like in Victoria?


 

Mild temperatures and long frost-free periods are common, as Victoria experiences some of the most moderate weather in all of Canada. The Greater Victoria region lies in the rain shadow of Vancouver Island, within the Georgia Basin. This protected area receives considerably less precipitation than the West Coast, and a greater amount of sunshine. The city experiences an average low temperature of 6.5 degrees C (43.7 F) in January and an average high temperature of 21.8 degrees C (71.2 F) in July and August. Offshore breezes keep summer days cool but lower the temperatures at night. A light jacket or sweater is best for evening.

The population of Victoria was 78,057 at the last census in 2006. The region known as Greater Victoria, which includes 13 different municipalities, had a population of 330,088 and is the largest urban area on Vancouver Island.The population of British Columbia in 2009 was an estimated 4,419,974. Close to two million are believed to live in the Greater Vancouver area alone.

Are there car rental concessions at the cruise ship terminal?


 

While there is no car rental concession at Ogden Point, buses, shuttles, taxis and other transportation options are all readily available to take passengers wherever they would like to go.

 

Where can I pick up cruise passengers or crew visiting Victoria?


 

Visiting passengers or crew can be picked up from the terminal at Ogden Point. The facility can be accessed from Dallas Road. Follow traffic flow markings to the pier buildings.
